Description

Plastinex Red Label is a water-based SBR latex to be mixed before using with Portland cement and sand to obtain mortar mixes. The mortar/Plastinex mix has extremely high bonding strength and will harden without noticeable shrinkage after setting. It shows excellent adhesion to all the most difficult surfaces. When mixed with water, Plastinex can be used as a Primer for absorbent surfaces prior to tiling to slow down the action of water evaporation.

Precautions

Never use Plastinex Red Label on chipboard or wood agglomerates. Adhesives mixed with Plastinex Red Label have a reduced open time in warm dry weather and forms a surface skin that must be removed by re-trowelling.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces to be tiled must be flat and true, free from oil, dirt, grease or any other contaminants. Very porous surfaces should be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water).

Concrete : New concrete must be allowed to cure for 6 weeks and should have a wood flat finish. When finished with a steel trowel, concrete must be acid etched, using Floor Prep.

Cement Render : Render to be left with a wood float finish and allowed to cure for 7 days.

Fibre Cement Sheets : Compressed fibre sheets should be primed with Plastinex (1 part Platinex mixed with 4 parts water) and all joints to be taped with PVC duct tape and fixed according to manufacturer's instructions.

Plasterboard : Must be fixed as per manufacturer's instructions. Jointing compound must be primed with Plastinex.

Typical Applications

Mortar Modifier — Gives sand cement mixes approximately 3 times normal strength. It produces a shrink free, shock and water resistant, high bond strength mortar suitable for adhering all tiles, stone, slate and terrazzo to any brick/concrete surface. It can be used for internal and external wet or dry areas. All surfaces should be clean, sound, free from movement, soil, grease, wax and any other contaminants. Very porous surfaces should be sealed to prevent suction (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water).

Thin Bed Application — Mix 20 litres undiluted Plastinex to 40kg cement (0.5 litres undiluted Plastinex to 1kg cement). Use a trowel with notches cut 4.5mm deep at 9mm centres. (Pot life 2-4 hours)

Thick Bed Application — Mix 20 litres undiluted Plastinex to 40-80kg sand/cement (0.5 litres undiluted Plastinex to 1-2kg sand/cement). Use a trowel with notches cut 6mm deep at 12mm centres (Pot life 2-4 hours) * For addition to cement based adhesives mix 1 litre of Plastinex with 4 litres of water for each 25kg bag.

Sealer - Primer — 1 Part Plastinex diluted with 4 parts water.

Pot Life

Once mixed, Plastinex Red Label has a pot life of approximately 90 minutes at 20°C and 50% relative humidity.
