Description
Plastinex Black Label Black Label is specifically designed for waterproofing swimming pool render made with gunite mortar. As an admixture, Plastinex Black Label generally increases the corrosion & water resistance, adhesion and abrasion resistance of patching mortars.
Precautions
Plastinex Black Label is unsuitable for:
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
All substrates to be sealed must be flat and true, free from oil, dirt, grease or any other contaminants.
OLD CONCRETE & CEMENT RENDER
Old or damaged areas must be sealed with Plastinex Black Label and allowed to dry. Prior to sealing, thoroughly wet the substrate and remove any free standing water. All corroded reinforcing bars should be thoroughly blast cleaned. Exposed old copper waterstop should be removed. The substrate should be maintained in a clean condition and covered with polyethylene film until ready to pour. Renderings should be restricted to 7mm for each coat to avoid sagging of the render. Multi-coat applications however should be applied in a relatively quick succession of 1 to 2 hours.
MIXING & POT LIFE
Premix the mortar and pour in approximately 75% of the calculated water followed by Plastinex Black Label. Because of a plasticising effect of the emulsion, total water demand for Plastinex Black Label mortars will be lower than for unmodified systems. To obtain the desired degree of workability, slowly add the remaining water and mix to a smooth paste free from lumps by using a drill that has a speed lower than 300 rpm. Over mixing the mortar will increase air entrainment. Slacken the mortar and re-mix after 5 minutes. In mortar, Plastinex Black Label has a pot life of approximately 3 hours at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.
OPEN TIME
Plastinex Black Label can significantly reduce the open time of mortars in hot and dry conditions. The open time of a mortar can be shortened to just a few minutes by the action of sun, wind, high temperatures or highly absorbent surfaces. Dampening or priming the substrate prior to rendering prolongs the open time of the mortar.
APPLICATION AND TOOLS
Plastinex Black Label gunite mortars should be applied with spray equipment. Plastinex Black Label patching mortars can be applied with a trowel or spirit level.
COVERAGE
20 litres of Plastinex Black Label modifies approximately 400kg of gunite mortar.
CURE TIME
Plastinex Black Label modified mortars cure in approximately 24 hours at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. High density substrates or temperatures during installation below 10°C will significantly increase the cure time.
CLEAN UP
Remove excess Plastinex Black Label from the surrounding surfaces after 10 minutes with water. Tools and hands can be cleaned with water while the modified mortar is still wet.
