*Exceeds The Building Code Of Australia (BCA) Requirements
*Self Levelling & Fast Drying
*Suitable For All Substrate Types & Overlay Materials

DESCRIPTION

Acoustic Underlay is specifically designed to reduce sound transmission between structural concrete constructions. Acoustic Underlay has been designed for use under all types of ceramic tiles, natural stones, timber floor boards and parquetry. Acoustic Underlay should be used in multi-level dwelling constructions both internally and externally and is recommended for wet areas. Acoustic Underlay can exceed the requirements of the Building Code Of Australia (BCA) when applied to a minimum depth of 5mm according to ISO 140-7:1998 & 717-2:1996. As each building is unique with respect to its design, materials and construction, Morgan’s recommend individual on-site FIIC testing as a guide to the final acoustic properties of the underlay. Basic on-site factors that influence the performance of the Acoustic Underlay include high MPA concretes, concrete slab depths and large cavities under suspended ceilings.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Do not add water or sand to the product
  • Always work within a temperature range of 10-35 degrees Celsius
  • Exposure to wind will prematurely skin and crack the underlay
  • Avoid applying the underlay where regular foot traffic is imminent
  • Protect the underlay from rain for seven days
  • Used under timber - a moisture test is required before all application of timber flooring (refer Morgan’s)

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION & EXPANSION JOINTS

All substrates to be tiled must be flat and true, free from oil, dirt, grease or any other contaminants. Very porous substrates should be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water). Incorporate expansion joints in accordance with AS 3958.1 1991.

Concrete: New concrete must be allowed to cure for 6 weeks and should have a wood float finish. Use Floor Prep to acid etch an adhesive key into concrete finished with a steel float. Cement Render: Render to be left with a wood float finish and allowed to cure for 7 days. Fibre Cement Sheets: Fibre cement sheets must be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water) and all joints must be taped with PVC duct tape and fixed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Timber Flooring And Parquetry: Used under timber - a moisture test is required before all application of timber flooring (refer Morgan’s)

WATERPROOFING

Areas requiring waterproofing can be waterproofed prior to or after installing Morgan Acoustic Underlay. Always use Morgan Waterproof Membrane.

MIXING & POT LIFE

Mix 20kg of Morgan’s Acoustic Underlay Powder Part 2 into 20 liters of Acoustic Underlay Liquid Part 1. Do not mix more than can be poured in approximately 10 minutes so as to obtain the best results from the self levelling properties of the product. Acoustic Underlay has a pot life of less than 30 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius.

APPLICATION & TOOLS

A polyethylene foam strip (closed cell) should be applied to the perimeter of the floor and to a height equal to the underlay. Pour the Acoustic Underlay to a 5mm minimum thickness over the total floor area. Ensure no gaps are left as this will reduce the effectiveness of the product. Do not over trowel. Floor laying may begin after 24-48 hours, depending on climatic conditions.

COVERAGE

The 40 kilogram Acoustic Underlay covers approximately 7 square meters to a depth of 5mm.

CURE TIME

Acoustic Underlay dries within 24 hours at 25 degrees Celsius & 50% relative humidity. The product may require longer dry times at low temperatures and higher humidities.

CLEAN UP

Acoustic Underlay can easily be removed with water before curing or by mechanical means after curing.

BONDING TO ACOUSTIC UNDERLAY

After curing, Morgan Acoustic Underlay will accept emulsion, cement and polyurethane based adhesives.

SHELF LIFE

Acoustic Underlay has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in cool and dry conditions.

PACKAGING

Part 1 liquid is supplied in a 20 lt. bucket and Part 2 Powder is supplied in a 20 kg paper bag.
