* Reduces Porosity * Aids Water Resistance * Enhances Grout Colour

Description

Grout Add is a liquid additive used in place of water when mixing Portland cement grouts (Morgan Regular Grout only). It will greatly improve the water resistance of cement-based grouts by making the grout joint less porous, this also gives the grout a greater resistance to abrasion.

Precautions

Grout Add cannot be used for flexible expansion joints or joints subject to movement. It is not recommended for use with unglazed natural stone products. Special care should be taken when using tiles with rough or open pored surfaces. If Grout Add mix is allowed to set on these, it becomes very difficult to remove. A coat of Penetrating Seal before grouting commences will aid clean-up (Refer to Morgan Adhesives for further information). On warm or windy days correct hydration of Grout should be monitored, keeping the joints damp with clean water after the initial hardening has begun. Using Grout Add will make the grout set faster than grout with no additive.

Preparing the Joints

Before filling, the joints must be cleaned from the top to the bottom of the tile side. If the tiling has been paid with adhesive, grouting may be carried out after the adhesive has set (not less than 6 hours). With conventional thick bed mortar, it is advisable to wait 2-3 days for walls and 7-8 days for floors. (Too much moisture can cause irregular grout colour.)

Mixing Grout Add

Grout Add is ready for use straight from the container. It should be mixed with Portland cement grouts in place of water and at an approximate rate of 30 parts Grout Add to 100 parts grout powder. The resulting mix should be a smooth creamy viscous paste. Never use over runny mixtures to avoid any settling or floating (latex migration).

DO NOT use excessive amounts of liquid when mixing, as this can cause irregular colour and weaken the grout.

DO NOT use an electric drill above 300 rpm as this can entrap air into the mix causing grout to dry soft and powdery or with unsightly pin holes in the surface.

Pot Life

Once mixed, Grout Add has a pot life of approximately 2 hours at 20°C and 50% humidity.

Application

It is recommended to work in small areas at a time, as grout mixed with Grout Add will dry quicker than grout without Grout Add. Completely fill the joint with Grout Add mix. With the aid of a smooth rubber squeegee or a firm rubber float, compact the grout firmly into the joints being sure to leave no voids or cavities. Use the squeegee or float diagonally to remove excess grout paste from the tile surface. Let the mix firm up in the joints for approximately 10-20 minutes or until it is no longer plastic.

Cleaning

Ensure the surface is cleaned as work progresses. A proper grouting system should be used, such as a Rubi 20915. (Refer to Morgan Adhesives) If cleaning is carried out too early, (when the paste is still plastic) the joints may be partially emptied. Use a damp sponge with small pore structure to clean up the tile surface and smooth the joints. Rinse the sponge frequently. It is very important to use a minimum amount of water, as overworking the joints can cause water float and or shade variation. When the grout has sufficiently hardened in the joints, polish the surface with a clean dry cloth.

Damp Cure

All grouts should be damp cured for 48 hours. Refer Australian Standards AS 3958 Part 1 Section 5.7.3.
