Description

Mortec Waterproof Membrane is a water based, rapid cure, roll on paste which cures to a seamless membrane. Mortec Waterproof Membrane conforms to the requirements of the Australian Standard AS 3740-2004 to provide a long lasting water barrier under tiling systems.

PRECAUTIONS

Mortec Waterproof Membrane is unsuitable for:
  • areas where the membrane will be exposed and subjected to regular foot traffic;
  • bonding to MDF board or timber & wax impregnated wood - (Our technical advice - sheet with fibre cement boards);
  • bonding to substrates subject to a negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp;
  • bonding to painted substrates;
  • bonding to impervious glazed or glass substrates.

SPECIAL CARE REQUIRED

Please consult Morgan Ceramic Tile Adhesives for a complete set of diagrammatic details pertaining to waterproofing. Waterproof Membrane must not be applied to substrates with temperatures below 10oC or above 35oC. Do not add water or sand to the premix. Check that the floors have proper falls built into the substrate. Protect the membrane from rain for 7 days after installation. Shower recesses should not be used for 7 days after the membrane has cured.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

All substrates to be waterproofed must be flat and true, free from oil, dirt, grease or any other contaminants. Very porous substrates should be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water). Apply and work in a bead of clear silicone to all joints.

Cement Render: Render to be left with a wood float finish and allowed to cure for 14 days.

Fibre Cement Sheets: Fibre cement sheets must be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water) and all joints must be taped with PVC duct tape and fixed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Plasterboard: Plasterboard must be fixed as per manufacturer's instructions. Jointing compound must be primed with Plastinex (1 part Plastinex mixed with 4 parts water).

Concrete: Allow to cure for at least 7 days for every 25mm of depth.

MIXING

Mortec Waterproof Membrane is pre-mixed and ready for use straight from the bucket.

DRY TIME & MULTIPLE COATS

Mortec Waterproof Membrane has a re-coat time of approximately 1 hour. Dampening or priming the substrate prior to waterproofing prolongs the dry time of the membrane. The second coat, or multiple coats, should be applied at a right angle to the first.

APPLICATION, TOOLS AND DRY THROUGH TIME

Apply Mortec Waterproof Membrane with a roller. Dry through times are increased on cool and humid days. Silicone joints significantly increase the dry through time of the membrane. Typical dry through times are 12hrs at 23°C and 50% relative humidity to 24 hours at 10°C and 50% relative humidity.

COVERAGE

1.5kgs of Mortec Waterproof Membrane will cover approximately 1square metre to a dry film thickness of 1mm.

CURE TIME

Mortec Waterproof Membrane cures in approximately 3 days at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. High density substrates or temperatures during installation around 10°C will significantly increase the cure time.

CLEAN UP

Remove excess Mortec Waterproof Membrane from surrounding surfaces with a damp cloth or sponge. Tools and hands can be cleaned with water while the membrane is still wet.

SHELF LIFE

Twelve months if stored in a dry & elevated position in the original factory sealed packaging.

PACKAGING

Mortec Waterproof Membrane is available in 20kg containers.

SPECIFICATION CLAUSE

The waterproof membrane shall be Morgan Mortec Waterproof Membrane - a high performance waterproof membrane complying with all relevant Australian & International technical standards.
